How should carpets be cared for?
Carpets add coziness, comfort and visually improve the interior of our homes or offices. But they also have negative qualities, because of their property to collect dust they quickly get dirty and over time begin to spoil the look of the interior. But in fact, you can keep the presentable appearance of the covering for many years if you follow the simple rules of carpets care.
Tips for proper carpet care
1. Regular vacuum cleaning.
Vacuum carpets at least once a week, and more often in high-traffic areas. Your vacuum cleaner should be powerful enough to properly suck up dust rather than rubbing it in. Clean the dust bag and brushes regularly and rinse the filters, otherwise the suction quality will deteriorate.
How to vacuum – basic rules:
Move the brush slowly. The fast movements of a conventional household vacuum cleaner do not allow the dust to be sucked up in time.
Direct the airflow from the motor toward the already clean floor to avoid picking up dust.
Walk across the carpet, moving the brush back and forth, covering the entire area. Vacuum from window to door, then turn around, walk from wall to wall. The final movement should be along the pile.
If possible, turn the rug over, vacuum the floor underneath and the back of the rug.
Do not forget to use the carpet – floor key depending on the type of flooring. Extend the brushes to clean uncovered floors, retract them to clean pile carpets.
Use all the attachments on your vacuum cleaner, including the round and crevice brushes. They will help you clean hard-to-reach areas and remove pet hair.
2. Use entrance and decorative mats.
Place entrance rugs to minimize the amount of dirt and debris entering your home. In addition, carpet gets dirtiest in front of chairs and sofas. Pick up small coverings in tone, put them on the vulnerable places. Such details give the room coziness and create an original style.
3. Periodically refresh and clean.
To refresh the carpet without visible stains, remove absorbed unpleasant odors and even a little disinfection will help soda. Moisturize the vacuumed surface with water from a sprayer, sprinkle baking soda (without fanaticism), and lightly rub it in with a brush. Vacuum after it is completely dry. Do not use on long, thick pile surfaces.
4. Clean up spills immediately, but not with a wet rag.
Do not wipe stains with a wet rag immediately after they appear, but apply the cleaner and let it work. Then blot with a sponge or rag, picking up the lint with a pinching motion.
5. Wash your dog’s feet after a walk.
Significant damage to carpets is caused by dogs whose owners let them into the apartment immediately after a walk. First, between the pads of the paws, the animal can bring flea eggs. Subsequently, they will spread throughout the apartment, pestering the dog. Secondly, even in warm, dry weather, sand clogs on the hair of the paws and under the claws, which the dog carries on the carpet.
6. Rotate the rug periodically.
If you change the position of the carpeting from time to time, it will wear evenly.
7. Furniture pillows.
Use furniture cushions under heavy furniture to prevent dents and damage to carpet fibers. Moving furniture periodically will also help prevent excessive wear in one area.
8. Professional cleaning.
Get your carpets professionally cleaned at least 1-2 times a year to deep clean and refresh them. This is the best way to maintain the appearance and performance of the product.
9. Read the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Follow the care instructions provided by the carpet manufacturer to make sure you properly care for and clean your carpets.
10. Regular care.
Performing regular cleaning helps to keep your carpets in good condition. In addition, many cleaning companies provide in-home carpet dry cleaning.
By incorporating these tips into your carpet care, you can ensure that your carpets stay clean, fresh and in good condition for years to come.
