Weekly vs biweekly house cleaning: which actually fits your home?

The single most common question we get from new residential clients. The honest answer is that most homes are fine with biweekly — but there are specific situations where weekly is genuinely better. Here's the framework we use to recommend one or the other.

Most residential cleaning vendors push weekly cleaning because it’s more revenue. Most homeowners don’t actually need it. The cleaning industry has been trained to sell frequency rather than to recommend the right frequency, and the result is that a lot of homes pay for cleaning they don’t need.

Biweekly is the default for most homes. Couples and small families, no pets or one well-groomed pet, adults working outside the home, homes 1,500–3,500 sq ft. Pros: roughly half the cost of weekly, enough frequency to maintain consistently clean home. Cons: the week before cleaning may feel less clean, requires light tidying between visits.

Weekly cleaning is right for specific situations. Larger homes (3,500+ sq ft), families with young children, multiple pets (especially shedding breeds), allergies, busy professional households, frequent entertaining.

Annual cost comparison for a 3-BR home: Biweekly at $215 × 26 visits = $5,590/year. Weekly at $215 × 52 = $11,180/year. Difference: $5,590/year.
